We take an academic approach to investing, relying on research coming out of the nation’s top universities and independent research firms rather than material produced by Wall Street banks and investment companies.
We find the research produced by Dalbar (below) both interesting and disturbing. It tells us that most investors routinely earn returns that are much lower than the market average. Further, investors are not committed to the long term. As a result, they earn returns far below what that they could have earned had they simply invested in index funds.
